Tourism innovation moves forward in Spain



We are happy to present the 12 selected projects from Spain under fuTOURiSME Open Call. Each project will receive €30,000 and expert support to implement solutions that drive sustainability, digitalisation, accessibility, and innovation in the tourism sector.

  • Ecolabel Application by Camping Izarpe The project focuses on obtaining the European Ecolabel certification for Camping Izarpe by implementing sustainable practices. Activities include an environmental assessment, implementing corrective measures (such as energy efficiency improvements, waste reduction, and sustainable mobility solutions), training employees, and updating digital communication. The process also involves documentation management and submitting the Ecolabel application.

  • Ansó Trails VR: Explore Before You Hike by Hostal Kimboa The project involves the development of a Virtual Reality (VR) platform that allows visitors to preview 10 hiking trails in the Valle de Ansó. Activities include data collection, trail mapping using photogrammetry, 3D modeling, and VR development. The platform will be integrated into Hostal Kimboa, offering an interactive experience to guests and external visitors. The project also includes testing, optimization, and promotion through digital marketing and local partnerships.

  • Regenera Hotelera by El Lagar de Somo The project focuses on improving the competitiveness and sustainability of Spanish hotel accommodations by implementing a Regenerative Competitive Hotel model. It involves digitalization, automation, and process standardization to enhance efficiency. Activities include stakeholder mapping, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) assessments, training programs, policy development, and implementation of operational improvements such as smart energy use and waste reduction.

  • Taste & create by Belén Segarra The project integrates gastronomy, art, and sustainability to create innovative rural tourism experiences. Activities include developing a digital platform to connect local producers, artists, and tourism operators; conducting capacity-building workshops on co-creation and sustainability; compiling best practices in rural tourism; and implementing a pilot program in Alto Palancia, which will include tourism experiences and a Gastro-Artistic Festival.

  • ​​Viajes Regenerativos Competitivos by Viajes La Molina ​The project aims to create regenerative and competitive travel experiences that balance customer satisfaction, community well-being, and environmental impact. Activities include mapping stakeholders, creating a sustainability scorecard, developing a regenerative travel standard, implementing training programs for employees and suppliers, and designing low-carbon travel options. A digitalized system will be used for impact measurement and reporting.

  • CHEESE Challenge 2030 by Gestión Agroganadera and Asociación Ruta Europea del Queso The project aims to position Quesoturismo as a reference in gastronomic, inclusive, and sustainable tourism, emphasizing the rich cheese-making tradition. Activities include:

    • Infrastructure improvements (signage, accessibility, interactive displays).

    • Digital marketing campaigns (social media, influencer collaborations, online content).

    • Participation in European Cheese Fairs to promote sustainable cheese tourism.

    • Development of educational and interactive experiences through cheese museums and interpretation centers.

    • Sustainability initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint of cheese production.

  • MedFish2Cook – Be a local fishermen for one day by El Brogit The project integrates Virtual Reality (VR), gamification, and culinary experiences to promote sustainable fishing, local gastronomy, and cultural heritage. Key activities include:

    • Developing a VR experience that simulates diving and fishing in the Mediterranean.

    • Creating educational materials (fish identification cards, recipes, sustainability awareness).

    • Engaging local fishermen, cultural associations, and restaurants to provide authenticity and promote local cuisine.

    • Enhancing digital infrastructure (CRM system, SEO improvements, online booking, and secure payment integration).

    • Launching a promotional campaign using social media, influencer collaborations, and partnerships with educational institutions.

  • Real Time Territory by Vamos Rural The project develops a real-time AI-powered platform that connects travelers, local communities, and tourism operators, providing live updates on events, activities, and services in rural areas. Key activities include:

    • Conducting market research and collecting user feedback.

    • Developing an AI-driven itinerary generator that adapts to travelers’ preferences and real-time conditions.

    • Creating a database of 100 local events with detailed information on sustainable and cultural activities.

    • Organizing workshops for SMEs and tourism operators to digitize their services and enhance their competitiveness.

    • Launching a marketing campaign to promote the platform and engage users.

  • Lighthouse eXperience by Hotel Semáforo de Fisterra The project integrates Virtual and Mixed Reality (VR/MR) to enhance tourism experiences at Hotel Semáforo de Fisterra. Key activities include:

    • Developing a VR platform to showcase historical and natural landmarks, such as sunken ships, Monte Pindo, and the Ézaro waterfall.

    • Capturing 360° imagery and videos of the local environment.

    • Installing state-of-the-art VR equipment at the hotel for an immersive visitor experience.

    • Training hotel staff to manage and promote the VR-based tourism offering.

    • Launching a marketing campaign featuring social media, influencer collaborations, and tourism events.

  • Gamified history & culture of European cities by Smart Tourism Technologies The project develops gamified, interactive city guides using augmented reality (AR), AI-powered recommendations, and multimedia content to make cultural tourism more engaging, especially for families. Key activities include:

    • Market research to identify demand and design engaging content.

    • Development of 10 gamified city guides featuring quizzes, 3D models, AR scenes, and storytelling.

    • Creation of multimedia content, including audio guides, videos, and virtual interactions with historical figures.

    • Marketing and promotional campaigns using SEO, online ads, and influencer collaborations.

    • Launch of the guides on Aumentur, making them available for direct purchase via the app.

  • ASTROPYRENEES: from the mountains to the Sky by Obaga Activitats The project aims to promote astrotourism and cultural heritage in the Pyrenees through an inclusive astronomical festival held across multiple micro-villages. Key activities include:

    • Organizing astronomical workshops for children and adults.

    • Conducting talks on Pyrenean mythology, astronomy, and sustainability.

    • Hosting stargazing sessions with telescopes and citizen-science campaigns to track light pollution.

    • Collaborating with local tourism businesses and producers to boost the local economy.

    • Implementing inclusive features to make astronomy accessible to people with disabilities and social exclusion risks.

  • ​​Invisibile Immersive Heritage by Trivium Estratexias en Cultura e Turismo The project digitizes and enhances cultural heritage sites using Virtual Reality (VR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and interactive audio to create immersive experiences for visitors. Key activities include:

    • ​Developing a VR platform for the META QUEST ecosystem to provide 360° experiences of historically significant but inaccessible sites.

    • ​Creating AI-powered avatars to guide visitors through cultural narratives with real-time interaction.

    • ​Producing multilingual educational content to ensure global accessibility.

    • ​Implementing a freemium model that allows free access to sample tours while offering premium content for purchase.

    • ​Marketing and promotional efforts to increase visibility through digital campaigns, strategic partnerships, and specialized media outreach.
