New fuTOURiSME Compendium Now Available: Lessons, Best Practices and Inspiration for the Future of Sustainable Tourism

After almost three years of collaboration across Europe, the fuTOURiSME partnership is proud to publish one of its key knowledge outputs:

More than a report, the Compendium is a practical resource designed to help tourism SMEs, destinations, business support organisations and policymakers navigate the green and digital transition.

Built on extensive research, stakeholder engagement and real implementation experience, it brings together the knowledge generated throughout the project into a single, accessible publication. It draws on:

  • over 100 interviews with tourism SMEs,

  • transnational research across partner countries,

  • lessons learnt throughout the project,

  • best practices from across Europe,

  • and the experiences of 60 innovative tourism SMEs supported through the fuTOURiSME Open Call.

Rather than presenting sustainability as a theoretical concept, the Compendium showcases practical examples that demonstrate how tourism businesses are already implementing innovative digital and sustainable solutions in their daily operations.

Readers will discover:

  • practical lessons learnt from SMEs;

  • transferable best practices;

  • innovative project case studies;

  • recommendations for the twin transition;

  • examples that can be replicated in different tourism contexts;

  • insights into sustainability, digitalisation, certification, accessibility and local development.

The publication also reflects the broader vision of fuTOURiSME: strengthening the resilience, competitiveness and sustainability of Europe's tourism ecosystem through collaboration, innovation and knowledge sharing.

Whether you are a tourism entrepreneur looking for inspiration or a policymaker designing future support schemes, the Compendium offers practical ideas that can be adapted to different destinations and business models.

📖 Download the Compendium from our Library and explore the future of sustainable tourism.
